Willie Nelson celebrated his 90th birthday by holding a star-studded bash at the Hollywood Bowl for two nights in late April 2023. Available in a variety of formats -- the standard two-CD and Blu-ray, a complete digital edition, and a double-LP of highlights -- Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90 Live at the Hollywood Bowl is an epic party, capturing the breadth and depth of Willies influence on American music. The biggest stars are saved for a closing stretch with Nelson himself. Over a series of five songs, he shares the stage with Neil Young & Stephen Stills, Sheryl Crow, George Strait, Snoop Dogg, and Keith Richards, a culmination of two hours of festivities that begin with Billy Strings tearing into "Whiskey River" and Charley Crockett keeping things humming with "Yesterdays Wine." Between these superstars and upstarts lie a lot of legends, friends, and family, all sounding excited to sing these songs to an appreciative audience. A concert of this magnitude is bound to have a slow spot or two but theyre overshadowed by the moments where the singer is perfectly suited to the song: Dwight Yoakam captures the rambling wit of "Me and Paul," Margo Price & Waylon Payne rip through "Georgia on a Fast Train," Lyle Lovett steers "Hello Walls" back to its honky tonk roots, Miranda Lambert highlights the melancholy undercurrent on "Mammas Dont Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys," and Dave Matthews offers an extraordinary solo version of "Funny How Time Slips Away."
