Satan's Pilgrims have always been a very one-track band: they play surf instrumentals, pure and simple, and with all of the kitschy smoothness and danceability that this endeavor implies in the '90s. Soul Pilgrim delivers what's expected, although it does feature a reliance on Hammond organ sounds that's not quite as pronounced on the band's other releases; on most tracks, this creates a rump-shaking groove that manages to get a step or two beyond traditional surf revival conventions. ~ Nitsuh Abebe
