エディット・ピアフのトリビュート・アルバム『Mireille Mathieu chante Piaf』にレア音源及び新録曲を追加収録し再発売

世界中でこれまでに2億枚のアルバム・セールスを記録。フランスを代表する歌姫として50年のキャリアを誇るミレイユ・マチュー。1946年7月22日にアヴィニョンの貧しい家庭の長女として生まれ、19歳の時パリに上り、テレビののど自慢番組で「愛の讃歌」を歌って優勝。 エディット・ピアフの再来と呼ばれ、翌年の1966年にポール・モーリア作曲の「愛の信条」でデビュー。おかっぱ頭の髪型がトレードマークで、1970年代には3度来日公演も行った。
今回発売されるアルバムは、ミレイユ・マチューがオーケストラを共にレコーディングしたエディット・ピアフのトリビュート・アルバム『Mireille Mathieu chante Piaf』の再発盤。「La vie en rose」等の有名曲から、未発表曲、ライブ音源、そして2023年録音の新録曲まで収録。

The most revered French vocalist of the 20th century, Edith Piaf continues to influence French artists long after her death. A soulful, moving singer with an impressive range, Mireille Mathieu pays tribute to Piaf's legacy on the superb Chante Piaf. As great as Piaf's influence is on her, the singer projects an impressive identity of her own on familiar songs ranging from the dramatic "Exodus" and the haunting "Jezebel" to the confident "Non, Je Ne Regrete Rien." Quite appropriately, this fine CD opens with Piaf's signature song, "La Vie en Rose." Atlantic could have easily come up with a Piaf clone, but instead, the company wisely chose a vocalist who salutes the legend on her own terms. ~ Alex Henderson
