In the wake of stoner rock favorite Unida's well-reported record company woes comes Hermano, a side project featuring erstwhile Kyuss legend (and Unida vocalist) John Garcia matched up with various likeminded and experienced scene refugees. Born out of bassist Dandy Brown's suggestion that they record some tunes together (hence the title), Only a Suggestion does offer a good diversion for those positively starved for Garcia product, while also representing a valid band with its own merits thanks to the talent of all involved. But true to its title, for the most part this is merely a suggestion of a great stoner/doom album, for despite countless promising moments ("The Bottle," "Senor Moreno's Plan," "Landetta (Motherload)," etc.), not a single true classic of the genre is hidden among these tracks. Serious fans of stoner rock, and particularly Garcia's inimitable vocal stylings, will find plenty to fawn over, but Only a Suggestion is still only recommended, not essential. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
