エクスペリメンタル・ポップ・アーティスト ティルザがミカ・レヴィをプロデューサーに迎えた最新作『trip9love...???』をリリース!

インディー～R&B～エレクトロニック～エクスペリメンタルとジャンルを横断する独自のスタイルで高く評価を集めるティルザ (Tirzah)が、ミカチュー名義でも活躍し、映画『アンダー・ザ・スキン』や『ジャッキー』を手がけた映画音楽家としても知られるミカ・レヴィをプロデューサーに迎えた最新作『trip9love…???』を〈Domino〉よりリリース。
このアルバムは、二人の自宅スタジオとロンドン南東部およびケント州のさまざまな場所で書かれ、レコーディングされた。
およそ1年かけて何度かレコーディング・セッションを行った後、ついに彼らが追い求めたい思うサウンドが輪郭を表したという。
収録された楽曲は、一つのビートの上にピアノのループを乗せ、ディストーションを加え、ロマンティックなヴォーカルの主旋律を使って作られた。詩は、現実と想像の両方の愛をテーマにしている。スピード感、つながり、類似性から、このレコードは1曲のように感じられ、ある瞬間の日記のようでもあり、1つのサウンドに魅了され、それにしたがって進むことが重要だったという。
『trip9love…』の作品性は、そういった制作状況そのものが反映されている。

With each release, Tirzah Mastin and Mica Levi have delivered ever-bolder versions of their artfully rough sound. Following Devotions stream-of-consciousness romance, Tirzah grew even more experimental with Colourgrades beautifully rumpled portrait of creativity and parenthood. Though trip9love...??? is more streamlined than either of its predecessors, its just as uncompromising. Within its blur of smudged beats, chopped piano loops, Mastins flowing vocals, and Levis blown-out guitars, its possible to trace the influence of Pierre Bournes heady contemplation, the restraint and discordance of Morton Feldman, and the dour beauty of Scottish and Irish folk melodies. Levi and Mastin use these elements fearlessly, transforming their homespun interpretation of club-oriented sounds into its own mysterious, sensual, and brooding style. Designed to be listened to as a single piece of music, trip9love...???s hallucinatory repeated vocal and musical motifs recall how Tirzah stretched seemingly simple phrases into maze-like complexity on their early singles, but they also reflect the growing eloquence of the duos looping song structures. Tension coils in the insular repetition of "u all the time" as Mastin confronts a lover: "Lets keep it real/How do you feel?" On "Stars," keyboards and corroded guitars echo her circling thoughts; on "2 D I C U V," they join in an elated embrace. These engrossing textures never overpower trip9love...???s songs, as they sometimes threatened to on Colourgrade. Instead, they complement the mood perfectly on tracks like "their love," where the relationship Mastin sings about dissolves into reverb and dissonance. Its her voice that provides the albums emotional throughline, guiding listeners through the peaks and valleys of "No Limit"s searching, the churning doubt of "he made"s skeletal R&B, and "nightmare"s blissful relief. Tirzahs music may be volatile, but its also remarkably consistent; trip9love...??? is the third time in a row that theyve turned a handful of sounds and a wealth of ideas into a haunting, forward-thinking album. ~ Heather Phares
