Flowchart: Sean O'Neal, Erin Anderson. Flowchart's continual evolution into its own brand of modern dance music continues with the enjoyable Gee Bee. With an initial rhythm loop that sounds like a combination between someone trying to gun a motorcycle and pounding on a wooden box, Flowchart kick off the title track of Gee Bee with an agreeably outre approach. Scat vocal bits, high-hat drum machine hits, finger snaps, and more slowly but surely transform the track into a great, straight-ahead four-to-the-floor pounder. It's not cutting edge techno by 2000 standards, but it's damn entertaining for what it is, quirky samples firing off bar by bar and wrapping up in a fine percussion jam. "Manderine" fleshes out the release by appearing in two separate mixes -- first, the original band version, a semi-ambient trance effort that plays around with the woozy, post-MBV feeling of Cumulus Mood Swing, along with some glitch-techno percussion towards the aggressively energetic end. Fellow Philadelphia dance experimentalist Tleilaxu then offers up his own version, throwing in both fuller-bodied drum hits and bass burbles as well as a deceptively calm lead synth line. ~ Ned Raggett
