Though the lyrics are simple, sometimes trite, and often incomprehensible ("Buckle my shoe with your grill"?!), the deep rhythm and punchy horns make local fave Rippopotamus' latest a fun and funky album. Mixing odd variations of funk, rock, metal, rhythm and soul, rap, and a melange of other, often confused sounds with frequently over-syllabled lyrics about the band's native Boston, an apparent preoccupation with water (e.g., the title track, "Sump Pump" and "Rubber Ducky") and, of course, sex, the strongest moments of Swim are its instrumental ones, but not even all of these are all that splashy. Though not all wet, Swim is not an album of tidal force, either. Nonetheless, it is a good, get-up-and-dance album from a good-time hometown Boston band. ~ Matthew Robinson
