As an ambassador for Indian music and the sitar, Ravi Shankar captured the world's attention with an endorsement by the Beatles and a tireless touring schedule that brought his exotic music far and wide. VISIONS OF PEACE affords the listener generous selections from Shankar's oeuvre. From the very first song on disc one, "Padhasapa," a Japanese theme is unveiled. The koto is performed with virtuosity by Susumu Miyashita. "Kaharwa" follows with a spine-tingling tabla solo. "Improvisation on the Theme of 'Rodukan'" and "Namah Shivaya," with the shakuhachi flute prominent, offer an aura of mystery. This theme lingers all the way through to the frenetic "Tribute to Nippon," with its rippling tabla rolls and the rising intensity of Shankar's sitar runs. At the close of each disc are two long-form ragas, "Homage to Baba Allauddin (Raga Hemant)" and the "Raga Hameer," enabling Shankar to spread out and display his genius. His music has spoken to many generations and continues to do so with a unique vision and the invigorating mastery of the sitar.
録音 : ステレオ (Studio)
