シンフォニア・オヴ・ロンドンとの一連の録音ではBBCミュージック・マガジン賞をはじめとした数々の賞に加え、2022年度には「ラヴェル:管弦楽作品集」(RCHSA5280/CHSA5280)がレコード・アカデミー賞の管弦楽曲部門、そして英グラモフォン賞の空間オーディオ部門を受賞するなどさらなる圧倒的な評価を築いている指揮者、ジョン・ウィルソン。今回はBBCフィルハーモニックと2019年(CHAN20036)、2020年(CHAN20148)にリリースし高く評価されていたエリック・コーツ・シリーズに3年ぶりとなる新作が加わります。

ライト・ミュージックの分野でもスペシャリストとして活躍してきたジョン・ウィルソン。初期にはアーサー・サリヴァンやエドワード・ジャーマンの影響を受け、ジャズやダンス・バンドの要素を取り入れながら独自に進化していった英国のライト・ミュージックの全盛期を代表するコンポーザー=コンダクター、エリック・コーツの音楽はまさに彼の得意とするところでしょう。第3巻となる今作は、各楽章がそれぞれ田舎、街、海でのイギリスの男性を表現した組曲《3人の男》や、「私たちの想像の中の"シンデレラ"に捧げる」というコンセプトで書かれた幻想曲《シンデレラ》、イギリスの歴史上の3人のエリザベスを描いた女王陛下に捧げる組曲《3人のエリザベス》などを収録。時代の移り変わりに左右されることなく、日常の喜びを生き生きとしたメロディーで表現する才能にあふれ、戦争の時でも平和の時でもイギリス人に魅力と活力を与え続けたエリック・コーツの音楽をジョン・ウィルソン&BBCフィルの溌剌とした演奏でお楽しみください。
