リストの管弦楽伴奏による歌曲集。リストにとって歌曲は、芸術的・美的発展の手段でした。また、リストの後、管弦楽伴奏による歌曲も多く生み出されるようになるなど、同世代・後世にも影響を与えています。ここでは、リスト作のほか、シューベルトの歌曲をリストが管弦楽伴奏に編曲したものも収録。管弦楽版が未出版だった、「影法師」「祖先の墓」「ヴァイマルの死者たち」「さすらいのユダヤ人」を、リスト・アカデミー・エディションに基づいて世界初録音収録。歌唱陣は、ウィーン国立歌劇場で活躍し、ヘンデルやモーツァルト、そして《ばらの騎士》オクタヴィアンで絶大な評価を得ているハウツィール、ヘレヴェッヘの指揮で鮮烈デビューし、宗教作品からオペラ、歌曲まで縦横無尽に活躍するイム・スンヘ、そして言わずとしれたトーマス・ハンプソン、バイロイト音楽祭や東京・春・音楽祭などでもおなじみのコニエチュニ、という夢のような顔ぶれです。ハーゼルベック率いるウィーン・アカデミー管の細やかな表現も味わいがあります。
ハーゼルベックはオルガン奏者、指揮者として数多くのリリースと受賞を重ねた重鎮。1985年にピリオド楽器のウィーン・アカデミー管弦楽団を設立し、バロックからロマン派作品まで、ウィーン楽友協会および世界中で演奏会シリーズを重ねました。

This 2023 release from the Aparte label offers almost an embarrassment of riches. Begin with the presence of the veteran Thomas Hampson, giving Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau a run for his money as a singer who sounds great well into senior citizen-hood. There are a few shadows in the voice, but the sense of drama in Der Erlkonig is electrifying, perhaps more than ever. There are the younger singers whom Hampson has brought along for the ride, most notably soprano Sunhae Im giving commanding performances of three of Liszts Schubert song orchestrations. There is the repertory; Liszts orchestral songs are, in general, a neglected part of his output, and here are no fewer than four world premieres. Weimars Toten is a fascinating part of the cultural history of that metropolis, explicated nicely by annotator Klaus Aringer. There is also clear yet intimate, ideally idiomatic sound from the Lisztzentrum Raiding. One could go on with this list, but perhaps it is desirable to leave further items for listeners to discover on what will surely be multiple hearings. A wonderful recording. ~ James Manheim
