ヴィヴァルディ・エディション最新刊は、ファビオ・ビオンディとエウローパ・ガランテによるヴァイオリン協奏曲集!ヴィヴァルディ・エディション全体としては第71巻目となり、シリーズ中のヴァイオリン協奏曲としては11枚目となります。今回の演目は、18世紀初頭の最も有名な演奏家の一人、アンナ・マリアの名を冠したヴァイオリン協奏曲集。ヴィヴァルディが40年間教鞭を執ったピエタ教会出身の神童であり、卓越した演奏家であったアンナ・マリア(1696-1782)は、優れたヴァイオリニストであると同時に、ヴィオラ・ダモーレ、テオルボ、チェンバロ、チェロ、リュート、マンドリンにも長けていました。彼女の名声はヨーロッパ中にとどろいており、ヴィヴァルディが彼女に献呈した作品はRV286(聖ロレンツォの祝日のために)やRV581,582(聖母被昇天の祝日のために)など、数多くの作品を献呈、ないし彼女のために書いたと考えられています。ここでは1710年から1720年代にかけて作曲された6曲を収録。独奏ヴァイオリン+弦楽(ヴァイオリン、ヴィオラ・チェロ、ヴィオローネ)にアーチリュートとクラヴィチェンバロという編成で、時に茶目っ気たっぷりに、時に重厚な雰囲気でと、自由自在に表情や雰囲気を変えて演奏しています。協奏曲RV179aのラルゴでは、アンナ・マリア自身による豊かな装飾が施されたヴァージョンも収録しています。ヴィヴァルディを熟知しているビオンディと、エウローパ・ガランテが、真骨頂を発揮しています。

The Vivaldi Edition issued by the Naive label covers a cache of 450 Vivaldi manuscripts discovered at the Italian National Library in Turin, with most of the works having never been recorded before. The series is entering its third decade, and the individual releases are almost without exception worthwhile, with eye-catching graphics to boot. What is interesting is how many of the works have some strongly imaginative, almost experimental aspect, and that is especially true of this collection of concertos "per Anna Maria," Vivaldis star violinist at the Ospedale della Pieta orphanage. Anna Maria was apparently her full name, and she gained international renown. One learns from the notes that most of the concertos were not actually written for her, but she did choose them to play, and she clearly had an eye for unusual works that use an element of virtuosity in fresh ways. Consider the first movement of the Violin Concerto in B flat major, RV 363, subtitled "Il corneto da posta" (or "The Posthorn"). The posthorn effect is set off by quite a radical harmonic move. Several of the concertos open with big masses of sound in a single key, departing only at the last possible moment and setting up maximal contrast with the soloists entrance. That soloist is Fabio Biondi, who, with his ensemble Europa Galante, is a seasoned Vivaldi pro by now; he has a brilliant style, and the theorbo-heavy continuo group is a special pleasure. A fascinating Vivaldi release that is of interest well beyond the specialist realm, this release made classical best-seller lists in the autumn of 2023. ~ James Manheim
