今年の第65回グラミー賞でデビュー・シングル「abcdefu」が最優秀楽曲賞にノミネートされたテキサス州ダラス出身のシンガーソングライター、ゲイル。2021年にAtlantic Recordsとメジャー契約を交わした彼女は現在18歳。2022年にリリースしたデビュー・シングル「abcdefu」は全世界で10億回以上のストリーミング回数を記録しただけでなく、Spotifyグローバル・チャート及びiTunesチャートの"Top Pop Songs"並びに総合チャートにて1位を獲得。さらに、1億回以上の再生回数を記録している楽曲の公式ミュージック・ビデオは、ゴールド及びプラチナ認定を獲得。その大ヒット・シングルをフィーチャーしたデビューEP『a study of the human experience volume one』と、全米を中心とした各メディアで"「GAYLEのこれまでの曲の中でもベストソング"との評価を集めているシングル「indieedgycool」をフィーチャーしたセカンドEP『the study of the human experience volume 2』が1枚のアナログLPとして発売。

A Nashville-based singer and songwriter, GAYLEs anthemic alt-pop became a social media phenomenon in 2021 with "abcdefu," her major-label debut single. It eventually reached the Top Three in countries including the U.S. and is included here, on her auspicious, Billboard 200-charting debut EP, A Study of the Human Experience, Vol. 1. Still 17 at the time of its release, she opens the EP with the lonely and frustrated "luv starved" to kick off five rambunctiously catchy, like-minded tracks with titles like "ur just horny" and "sleeping with my friends." Further down the track list, the smoky-voiced GAYLE is joined by UPSAHL and Blu DeTiger on "e-z," a song that starts by cataloguing a friends-and-exes hook-up circle before a chorus that finds no real fulfillment in it all ("Young and dumb and needy/Makin it look easy"). Dissatisfied and confrontational until the sixth and final track, the set ends on the sincere "kiddie pool," a song thats ready for the real deal. ~ Marcy Donelson
