The second time around, Art Garfunkel turned to pop producer Richard Perry, who liked to record in studios rather than cathedrals and who replaced the angelic style of the first album with a lush pop approach. The result was Garfunkel's best-selling album. The title track and a cover of "I Only Have Eyes for You" reached the Top 40 (the latter topped the U.K. charts), though the most prominent song was the Simon & Garfunkel reunion single "My Little Town." But the album was full of wise pop choices, among them Bruce Johnston's "Disney Girls," Stevie Wonder's "I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever)," and Hal David and Albert Hammond's "1199 Miles from L.A." Perry proved that, given the right material and production, the problem of the relative sameness of Garfunkel's vocal approach could be overcome. ~ William Ruhlmann

愛への旅立ち＜期間生産限定盤＞｜CDアルバム
腫れ物に触るかのように注意深く音符を辿りながら、やさしく寄り添うように歌いかけてくる。このアルバムに収められている全ての楽曲に”癒し”がある。アルバム・ジャケットでは、盛り場で佇むアート・ガーファンクルが、無垢な瞳でこちらを見つめている。同時期発売だったポール・サイモンの『時の流れに』にも収められていた「マイ・リトル・タウン」について、双方のアルバムで収録の失敗が囁かれたが、両方ともいいアクセントになっていると思う。このアルバムに対する評価として、ジャケットとは裏腹に、”あまりにも健全過ぎる”、”透明感しかない”との批判の声も聞くが、個人的には、”健全で何が悪い”、”透明感だけで十分”と返したい。

愛への旅立ち＜期間生産限定盤＞｜CDアルバム
相対的に見るとガーファンクル作品のなかで一番のアルバム。彼の透き通るような歌声が存分に活かされた曲だらけ。｢Rag Doll｣や｢I Only Have Eyes for You｣など、聴いてると溶けて無くなっていきそうな悲しげなナンバーがこのアルバムを象徴してますね。アクセントでジョビンの｢Waters of March｣をカバーしてるのも評価高いです。
