MOCKYが前作リリース以降にデジタル・リリースしてきた楽曲に加えて未発表曲5曲を追加したアルバムがLPのみでリリース!
ボーカルとソングライティングを脇に置き、ハープ、ホーン、70年代のアナログシンセを使い、リスナーの耳にカリフォルニアの陽光を広げるファンキーなサウンドトラック!

アルバム『Overtones For The Omniverse』をリリース後のこの一年Mockyはアップビートで高揚感のあるインストゥルメンタル楽曲を少しづつデジタルでリリースしてました。
この『Goosebumps Per Minute, Volume 1』は発表済の楽曲に未発表5曲が加わりレコードとしてようやくフィジカル・リリースされるものです。

このプロジェクトでは、ボーカルとソングライティングを脇に置き、ハープ、ホーン、70年代のアナログシンセを使い、リスナーの耳にカリフォルニアの陽光を広げるファンキーなサウンドトラックを提供する意図があります。
Mockyの特徴的なベースラインと、彼の息子Tellyと娘Luluを含むアンサンブルボーカルアレンジを中心に構成され、すべてヴィンテージのアンペックス・テープマシンで録音されています。
ヴィッキー・フェアウェルが "Flutter "で強烈なローズ・ソロを、カルロス・ニーニョが "Iridescence "でパーカッションを披露し、トッド・M・サイモンがホーンを担当、ライザ・ウォレスがアリス・コルトレーンの浮遊感を彷彿とさせるハープを生演奏でダンス・トラックに吹き込んでいます。

"Refractions" "Wavelengths" "Conduction" といったタイトルは「分毎にやってくる鳥肌」の条件を作り出すためのアプローチを示唆している。
MOCKY自身の感覚によって、どのタイミングにどのように弾き、叩き、Rawでfunkyなものに仕上げるか。
LAのハイランド・パークにあるバー「Goldline」で過ごした時間からもインスピレーションを受けているとのこと。

パンデミックの間中、この店に行って、外に座って、友人のDJ PhonecallsがGoldlineのレコードコレクションからプレイするのを聴いていた。
素晴らしい音楽を聴くことができる唯一の場所だったんだ。

彼は、高揚感のあるファンクやディスコをかけてくれて、夜が明けると家に戻ってスタジオでトラックを作りましたツアー中に訪れた東京のレコード・バーで過ごした時間を思い出しつつ。

On his more modest, though still charming, follow-up to 2021s ambitious Overtones for the Omniverse, Los Angeles-based composer and producer Mocky offers up a set of gently funky instrumentals with a breezy tone and loosey-goosey feel. Recorded to analog tape on mostly vintage gear, the project takes its name from Mockys decision to avoid using a click track and instead rely on the bodys instinctual tempos, which he dubs goosebumps per minute. Listening to his elastic basslines and satisfying synth leads, the GPMs (as opposed to the industry-standard BMPs, or beats per minute) are felt more than heard, which is most certainly his intent. On cuts like the shuffling "Air Pockets" and the languorous "Mellow Dynamics," Mockys affection for lush, mid-century lounge arrangements meshes with the head-nodding 70s grooves that are his bread and butter. His signature palette of strings, harps, flutes, and vintage synthesizers gives these tracks some needed depth, though at its core Goosebumps Per Minute seems more like an exercise in groove-building. Thematically, it plays more like the afterparty to Overtones main event, which is just fine because the afterparty is where the fun is. ~ Timothy Monger
