R&B界のマエストロ、ベイビーフェイスが放つ最新オリジナル・アルバムは、現音楽シーンで活躍する女性アーティストを迎えた珠玉のコラボレーション・アルバムのLP。

1980年代から活躍し、手掛けた作品の総売上が8億枚、グラミー賞を12回受賞しているR&B界を代表する大御所プロデューサー/アーティスト、ベイビーフェイスが米キャピトル・レコーズと契約、遂に待望のオリジナル・アルバムが完成した。

2015年の『リターン・オブ・ザ・テンダー・ラヴァ―』以来、実に7年ぶりとなる今回のアルバムは、R&B数々のアーティストをスターダムへ押し上げた大御所プロデューサーでもあるベイビーフェイスが、現音楽シーンで気になる女性アーティスト達をゲストに迎え完成させた珠玉のコラボレーション・アルバムである。

先行シングルとして配信リリースされた、現R&Bシーン2大ディーヴァと言っても過言ではないエラ・メイとの共演曲「キープス・オン・フォーリン」、ケラーニとの共演曲「シームレス」の他、若き才能あふれる"才女"たちとの"饗宴"曲が目白押し!

For his first album since 2015s Return of the Tender Lover, Babyface pairs up with established and emergent contemporary R&B artists, all of whom are women younger than his first solo hit. Although the rotational co-headliner nature of the album might bring to mind Lucky Dayes Table for Two -- a Grammy-winning recording that happens to feature a few of the singers on-board here -- its quite different, not strictly duets, with Babyface most often in a supporting role. It all plays out like an experiment or exercise rather than a proper album. Each song was written and recorded in a day, and since the women are always at the fore, the set comes across as a method for Babyface to adapt to writing and producing for considerably younger artists, and as a way to put himself out there to continue collaborating with that generation. Most of these songs would be fine deep cuts on LPs by Babyfaces guests. Unsurprisingly, those who have either directly referenced or evoked 80s and 90s R&B -- especially Ella Mai, Muni Long, and Kehlani -- turn out to be most compatible. Production-wise, Babyface splits duties with an assortment of collaborators including DMile, Khris Riddick-Tynes, and Sir Dylan (son of Tony! Toni! Tone!s Dwayne Wiggins, and onetime Kehlani bandmate). Echoes from Babyfaces past -- samples of the tender lovers own "Whip Appeal" and "Soon as I Get Home," and Tevin Campbells "Can We Talk" -- are integrated in clever, subtle fashion. ~ Andy Kellman

ベイビーフェイスが〈女子会〉と題して現行フィメールR&Bシーンの粋を集めたアルバムを完成させた。テヴィン・キャンベル名曲を換骨奪胎した先行曲"Keeps On Fallin'"はデュエット仕立てながらも主役は明らかにエラ・メイで、他の曲もすべてフェイス自身は前に出ることなく、いずれも女性ヴォーカリストを中心に据えた作りになっている。ケラーニ、アリ・レノックス、クイーン・ナイジャ、ココ・ジョーンズ、ティアナ・メジャー9、セヴン・ストリーター……とゲストの羅列で字数が埋まる前に耳についた曲を紹介すると、往年の代表曲のひとつ"Whip Appeal"を鳴らし続けてティンクを迎えた"Whatever"や、アフロビート調にアマーレイがコケティッシュな声を乗せる"One Good Thing"あたりか。
