リマスタリングされて再登場!

ロトと手兵の時代楽器オーケストラによる、レ・シエクルとドビュッシーの名作「海」。このたびあらたにマスタリングしなおして、harmoniamundiから登場します。

「海」は、1905年10月、シュヴィヤール指揮のコンセール・ラムルー管により初演された際の響きを再現しています。弦楽器はガット弦、金管は細管、木管やハープは当時のフランス製、パリ音楽院直伝の奏法を遵守しています。何よりヴィブラートとトレモロに終始するようなこの作品で、ヴィブラートが極力抑えられているため、聴感上の印象はがらりと異なり、雅楽のようでさえあります。名演ひしめく作品ながら、目から鱗の落ちる衝撃度No.1ディスクと申せましょう。

さらに注目なのが、ドビュッシー初期の作品「管弦楽組曲第1番」の世界初録音。1882年から84年、ドビュッシー20‐22歳パリ音楽院の学生時代の作で、長く失われたとされてきましたが、最近草稿が発見され話題となりました。オーケストラ版とピアノ連弾版の2種があり、後者はすでに録音もありますが、待望のオーケストラ版は初めて。第3曲「夢」はオーケストラ・スコアが見つからず、他にも不完全な部分があったため、現代フランスの作曲家フィリップ・マヌリが補筆完成させ、2012年2月2日にロトとレ・シエクルがパリで世界初演を行いました。演奏時間が30分近くかかる大作ですが、ドビュッシーの初期作品に特有のナイーヴな叙情性と人好きするメロディにあふれた魅力作で、オーケストラの響きに若きドビュッシーが私淑したワーグナーの影響が感じられるのが興味津々です。ほぼ同時期の「小組曲」や「春」に劣らぬ魅力を湛えています。

The movement to perform music on original instruments started out as a part of the early music scene of the 1960s, and over the decades, it grew to encompass works of the Classical, Romantic, and early modern eras. For this 2013 release on Musicales Actes Sud, the period instruments ensemble Les Siecles sets out to re-create the authentic sonorities of French orchestras of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and conductor Francois-Xavier Roth leads them in luminous performances of Claude Debussy's La Mer and the Premiere suite d'orchestre. Les Siecles maintains a large collection of period and modern instruments, and in all of their performances, they find appropriate matches to what was actually used at the time. In the years 1903 to 1905, when Debussy composed La Mer, the orchestra consisted of stringed instruments employing gut strings, and woodwinds and brass of varied manufacture and unique timbres, which were quite different in effect from modern instruments. This live performance reveals the delicate colors and subtle blending that are possible on such vintage instruments, and Roth achieves marvelous atmospheric effects that are fresh and utterly transparent in texture. The Premiere suite dates from 1882 to 1884, and the Romantic orchestra Debussy used is smaller and more intimate than a conventional modern orchestra, and the four movements have a charming picturesque quality that is perhaps lost in a larger ensemble. While these are concert recordings, the sound is extraordinarily clear and vibrant, and the microphone placement gives the group even coverage.
