ヒメノとルクセンブルク・フィルによるストラヴィンスキーの登場。すでにこのコンビには、「春の祭典」「カルタ遊び」「アゴン」を収めたストラヴィンスキーのアルバム(PTC-5186650/KKC-6011)があり、高く評価されただけにこちらもまた注目のリリースといえましょう。
プログラムは≪火の鳥≫と≪ミューズを率いるアポロ≫。1910年から、ディアギレフの死の年1929年までの間に、バレエ・リュスは、ストラヴィンスキーの音楽によるバレエ作品を12作上演しましたが、その第1作が≪火の鳥≫そして最後が≪ミューズを率いるアポロ≫でした(もともとは≪ミューズ≫は他の目的で作曲され、のちにバレエ・リュスでも用いられた)。≪火の鳥≫のポストロマン派的な幻惑的な世界では、ヒメノはオーケストラをミステリアスにならしています。
≪ミューズを率いるアポロ≫(1928)では、新古典主義的なエレガンス全開。「ミューズ」のストーリーは、様式美と理想的な美の象徴であるアポロが誕生するところから、アポロが成長し、ミューズたちの先頭に立ってパルナッソスに入城する、といったシンプルなものながら、ヴァイオリン・ソロが活躍する楽曲もあったり、音楽的にはたのしめるものです。ヒメノは、オーケストラを室内楽的かつ自由に響かせています。ヒメノとオーケストラの間のあつき信頼関係が感じられる演奏となっております。

グスターボ・ヒメノ(指揮)
スペインのバレンシア生まれの指揮者。打楽器奏者、室内楽奏者、ソリスト、そして教師として豊富な経験をもつ、多才かつ情熱的な音楽家。
パーカッション・デュオ「エレメンツ」としてルクセンブルク国際打楽器コンクール(1999年)で第2位を獲得。2001年にロイヤル・コンセルトヘボウ管弦楽団の首席打楽器奏者に就任した後、音楽家として更なる研鑽を深めるため、アムステルダム音楽院でオーケストラの指揮を学ぶ。アムステルダム・シンフォニック・オーケストラ・コン・ブリオの指揮者を2009年から2012年まで務めた後、2012年からアムステルダム管弦楽団のアーティスティック・リーダーおよび首席指揮者に就任。
2012/13年および2013/14年のシーズンには、ロイヤル・コンセルトヘボウ管弦楽団でマリス・ヤンソンスの副指揮を務めている(2012年クリスマス・コンサートなど)。また、2013年にはクラウディオ・アバドに招かれて多くの公演で副指揮を務めている。2015年よりルクセンブルク・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団の音楽監督に就任。同団をヨーロッパ有数のオーケストラへと躍進させた。2021/22のシーズンからトロント交響楽団の音楽監督を務めている。
