なんとも豪華な顔ぶれによるハイドンのピアノ三重奏曲集の登場。ハイドンが1784年から1790年の間、エステルハージー公に仕えていた最後の頃の作品で、ハイドンの筆が完全に熟していたことを感じさせる作品がならびます。ハイドンがちりばめた、ころころと自在に変化する表情のパッセージを、名手たちがこれ以上

＜ジェローム・アンタイ(鍵盤)＞
アンタイ3兄弟のひとり。ヴィーラント・クイケンのもとでヴィオラ・ダ・ガンバを学なかで歴史的鍵盤楽器にも興味をもつ。シギスヴァルト・クイケンやヤーコプス、マルゴワールらとガンバ、鍵盤の両方で共演。

＜マルク・アンタイ(フルート)＞
アンタイ3兄弟のひとり(もうひとりはピエール・アンタイ)。バルトルド・クイケンのもとで学ぶ。ラ・プティット・バンドなどで活躍。

＜アレッサンドロ・モッチア(ヴァイオリン)＞
ミラノのヴェルディ音楽院でフェリーチェ・クザーノに師事。さらにアッカルドのもとでも研鑽を積む。1992年以降、シャンゼリゼ管のコンサートマスターを務めている。

＜アリックス・ヴェルジエ(チェロ)＞
パリ国立高等音楽院でコワンにチェロを師事。ヴィオラ・ダ・ガンバも演奏する。1991年よりレザール・フロリサンのメンバー。さらに、レ・タラン・リリクやル・コンセール・デ・ナシオンでも演奏している。ジェローム・アンタイ、アレッサンドロ・モッチアとトリオの活動もしている。

Its a bit of a shame that the instruments used in this historically oriented Haydn album are apparently not specified anywhere, for they are among the attractions of the release, recorded in February of 2020 but not released until the summer of 2022. All of the works are from the 1780s, where a fortepiano is definitely called for, and the instrument played by Jerome Hantai sounds as though it is from that period. It is an exceptionally lively, clean instrument. The top lines in these piano trios are divided between flute (which Haydn offered as an option for some of them) and violin, and Marc Hantais flute is another exceptionally attractive instrument, warm and with a strong human breath presence without being wispy. Cellist Alix Verzier and violinist Alessandro Moccia are both veterans of the French historical-performance scene, but there is nothing of the stiff Baroque manner one sometimes hears in performances of Classical-era music by Baroque specialists; the playing is lively, and Haydns humor is intact. Best of all is the clarity of the performances. Consider the slow movement of the Piano Trio in D major, Hob. 15/16, a masterwork of registral and motivic detail. That clarity is diminished a bit by the overlarge acoustic of the Theatre elisabethain dHardelot, but in general, this is a fine Haydn chamber music release that gives the lie to the idea that his trios, even if he sometimes called them "piano sonatas," are piano works merely ornamented by the other instruments. ~ James Manheim
