台湾が生んだ若きヴァイオリニストが奏でるシューマン夫妻の親密な作品集!

10歳でのバーデンバーデン音楽祭へのデビュー以来、国際的な注目を集める若手ヴァイオリニスト、ソフィー・ワンが、シューマンに傾倒するドイツ生まれのピアニスト、フロリアン・グレムザーとの共演で奏でるシューマン夫妻の作品集。
ソフィー・ワンは1999年台湾出身。ライナー・クスマウル、イゴール・オジム、ボリス・クシュニールの下で学び、ハンス・アイスラー音楽大学にてニン・フェンに師事しました。台湾の主要なコンサートホールに登場しているほか、ドイツでも数々のオーケストラや音楽祭に定期的に招待されており、2016年にはラルス・フォークトが芸術監督を務めるシュパヌンゲン・ハイムバッハ室内音楽祭にもデビューするなど着実にその名声を高めています。
今回選曲されたのはロベルト・シューマンがクララ・シューマンへのクリスマス・プレゼントとして贈った「3つのロマンス」、またそれをきっかけとして今度はクララ・シューマンがブラームスへのクリスマス・プレゼントとして贈ったといわれる「3つのロマンス」、クララ・シューマンがヨーゼフ・ヨアヒムと何度も演奏したロベルト・シューマンの「ヴァイオリン・ソナタ第1番」、ロベルト・シューマンがアルベルト・ディートリヒ、ブラームスと共に作曲した「F.A.E.ソナタ」など、シューマン夫妻がデュッセルドルフに滞在していた1849年から1854年にかけて生まれたもの。夫妻がアルベルト・ディートリヒ、ブラームス、ヨーゼフ・ヨアヒムらの友人たちと絶えず交流しお互いを刺激し合っていた時期に作曲された、親密で充実した作品の数々です。

This release by youthful violinist Sophie Wang and pianist Florian Glemser purports to be an exploration of the Schumann circle in the mid-1850s, including not only Robert and Clara Schumann but also the young Brahms and Schumanns student Albert Dietrich, both of whom show up on the program here in the rarely recorded "F-A-E Sonata". Its unclear whether Wang and Glemser have specific insights into the creative atmosphere of the group. Clara Schumann gets top billing but is represented only by a single set of short pieces, the Three Romances for violin and piano, Op. 22. The program concludes with the Variations on The Last Rose (it is The Last Rose of Summer that is meant) by Heinrich Wilhelm Ernest, who had little to do with Schumann; a work by Joseph Joachim, who had more, and who was the dedicatee of the "F-A-E Sonata," would have rounded things off better. Still, Wang gives clean performances of music that is not, apart from Robert Schumanns Violin Sonata No. 1 in A minor, Op. 105, terribly often heard. Clara Schumanns Romances are among her strongest works and might easily be taken for Roberts music. Roberts own set of Three Romances, Op. 94, seem to show him aiming for a new simplicity akin to whats found in some of late Beethoven, while the "F-A-E Sonata," with two movements by Robert Schumann, one by Brahms, and one by Dietrich, is a one-of-a-kind experiment. This recording may fill holes in some libraries of 19th century music. ~ James Manheim
