Anthoney J Harts work as Basic Rhythm is heavily inspired by the pirate radio he grew up with, recontextualizing the rhythms of grime, garage, and techno into kinetic, elastic club material. His DJ mixes have explored the history of U.K. hardcore and jungle, with a series from 2017 specifically focusing on the first few years of the 1990s. Cool Down the Dance, announced as his final release on Planet Mu, is the projects first foray into full-on jungle, and it is positively jaw-dropping. The tracks maintain the combination of technical precision and restless energy exhibited on earlier releases, but this one has the added thrill of loud, blasted-out breakbeats and speedy tempos. All four tracks are pretty easy to mix, without any pattern changes or progressive structures, but theres so much energy and velocity that they avoid sounding minimal or too repetitive. Loxys remix of the title track sounds a bit smoother, more polished, and more rolling than the three Basic Rhythm originals, yet its no less effective or exciting. ~ Paul Simpson
