SACDハイブリッド盤。ワシントン・ナショナル・オペラの新録音はタゼウェル・トンプソンの台本とジャニーン・テソリの音楽で、今日のアメリカにおける人種差別をテーマにした現代オペラ『ブルー(Blue)』です。
『ブルー』は人種差別抗議活動中に同僚の警官に息子を殺されたアフリカ系アメリカ人警官の悲劇を描いた作品。黒人差別撤廃運動と強く共鳴するこの作品は、オペラの舞台でアフリカ系アメリカ人の家族の生活の現状をリアルに描いた注目作で、2020年に北米音楽批評家協会のベスト・ニュー・オペラ賞を受賞、またイギリス経済紙フィナンシャル・タイムズは「アメリカの人種差別に関する極めて注目すべき新作オペラ」と称賛されており、2021年にジョン・F・ケネディ・センターにてセッション録音されました。
音楽はリチャード・ギアが主演した映画『最後の初恋』の劇中音楽を担当するなど、現在のアメリカ音楽シーン各方面で活躍している作曲家ジャニーン・テソリの書き下ろし。美と雄弁に満ちた音楽がこの作品のテーマの重要性を引き立たせます。
指揮ロデリック・コックスは、ミネソタ管弦楽団のアソシエイト・コンダクターを務めるアフリカ系アメリカ人指揮者。ヨーロッパ初の黒人と少数民族によるチネケ!・オーケストラを振ったことでも注目されています。
