RadioheadのリミックスやThe xxとの共演でも知られる〈LuckyMe〉所属のプロデューサー、Jacques Greene。
2021年、廃盤となっていた12インチの音源を含む、初期10年間の活動を網羅したコンピレーションを発売し話題を読んだ彼が、最新EP『Fantasy』をリリース!
本作には名門〈RVNG Intl.〉からリリースを重ねる東京拠点のエクスペリメンタル・フォーク・アーティストSatomimagaeや、Joel Ford、人気バンドNeon Indieanでの活動でも知られるLeanna Macomberらをゲストとして迎えている。
ブレイクビーツ、ダウンテンポ、エレクトロなど、様々なタイプのビートが聞こえてくるが、全体を通して浮遊感を感じさせるアンビエント・サウンドが散りばめられ、Jacques Greeneならではの美しいメロディが際立つ作品となっている。なお、12インチには「Restless」(M-3)がデジタル配信より1曲多く収録されている。
今回のリリースは数量限定のフォレスト・グリーン・ヴァイナルでの発売となる。

Jacques Greenes 2022 EP Fantasy contains some of the producers most atmospheric material, drifting away from the tightly wound club tracks that have been his bread and butter since the early 2010s. Opening tune "Taurus" contains galloping breakbeats, breathy vocals, and glowing synths vaguely recalling Aphex Twins ambient work, but glossier. "Memory Screen + Fantasy" starts out as a lush midtempo drift with sweeping drums and a voice repeating the word "softer," then unexpectedly turns into a trance breakdown that never arrives at a beat drop. "Sky River" is the only track on the EP with full vocals, courtesy of Japanese ambient folk musician Satomimagae. The deep, shuffling breakbeats cut out for a considerable period of tense stillness before booming back and building the song to an emotional crest. Final song "Leave Home" is the highlight, bearing a stronger resemblance to Greenes familiar method of wringing dancefloor drama out of an impassioned vocal sample. ~ Paul Simpson
