ドゥアリータ～ヘンデル: オペラ・アリア集

ハンガリーの若手ソプラノ《エメーケ・バラート》は、2011年にインスブルック古楽国際声楽コンクールで優勝後、ミンコフスキ、サヴァール、アラルコン、アイム、ダントーネらの指揮の演奏での起用、そしてハンガリー国立歌劇場、アン・デア・ウィーン劇場、パリ・シャンゼリゼ劇場、エクサン・プロヴァンス音楽祭、ボルドー歌劇場などで活躍し、透き通るような美声で聴衆を魅了しています。2017年5月には、グラインドボーン音楽祭でクリスティ指揮のカヴァッリ「イペルメストラ」のタイロル・ロールを歌い、2017年11月のカンブルラン指揮の読売日本交響楽団演奏会「メシアン:アッシジの聖フランチェスコ」での天使役で絶賛を博しました。エラート・レーベル専属の初アルバムの、バルバラ・ストロッツィやフランチェスコ・カヴァッリの歌曲集では「彼女の独創的な表情を持った声は、当時の歌曲の表現を最大に引き出した」と絶賛されました。
彼女のこのセカンドアルバムは、ヘンデル作曲のオペラ・アリアの数々を歌っています。このアルバムでの特徴は、彼女の声の二面性をあらわしていることです。例えば「ファラモンド」「ラダミスト」では男性の役、「アルチーナ」などでは女性の役を歌っています。それだけではなく、正義と悪、冷酷非情さと優しさなど、様々な二面性を様々な口調、発声で表情を歌い分けていきます。エメーケ・バラートと、カウンターテナーのフィリップ・ジャルスキーは長年共演を行っており、近年では特にヘンデルのレパートリーのツアーを行い取り組んできました。それらの公演は「まさにヘンデリア・ドリーム・チーム!エメーケ・バラートのまばゆいばかりの見事なコロラトゥーラ!」と高く評価されています。ジャルスキーは、フランスとザルツブルクで指揮者としてデビューし成功を収め、このアルバムは指揮者に専念した初のアルバムとなります。

Several factors have drawn attention to this release by soprano Emőke Barath. Shes a fast-rising singer in anybodys book, with a really blazing mid-range and top and a lot of dramatic intensity. The album also marks the recording debut of countertenor Philippe Jaroussky as a conductor. Its probably the first of many such albums, and plenty of people will want to acquire it based on this alone, but there is an exciting crop of young sopranos right now, and many of them can produce a strong selection of Handels bumper crop of arias with some kind of interesting theme. Here, Barath suggests the unifying factor of dualita, of female characters who embody contradictory traits; she has the dramatic punch to make this work, but the idea could describe a lot of Handel heroines. What really sets Dualita apart from the crowd -- and it does definitely stand out -- is the pairing of Barath and Jaroussky with his Artaserse ensemble. Their voices have in common a blooming quality high up in the range, and Jaroussky knows instinctively how to handle this. He keeps mostly out of Baraths way but inserts high energy where it works. The results are exciting enough to get attention in familiar arias from Alcina, HWV 34, and Giulio Cesare in Egitto, HWV 17. Another attraction of the album is that Barath brings convincing treatments of lesser-known arias, of likes of "Qual leon, che fere irato, se sua prole," from Arianna in Creta, HWV 32, and "Se ria procella, sorge nell-onde," from Faramondo, HWV 39. One hopes for more releases from this pairing.
