一年を太陽の黄道上の視位置で二十四等分した、いわゆる二十四節気はもともと古代中国に始まるとされる。この作品は立春に始まり、様々な季節を経て冬の大寒で終わる24曲からなる歌曲集。作曲のコン・リューは中華人民共和国の作曲家で中国の伝統音楽と西洋音楽を融合する作風で知られる。筝を思わせるピアノに乗せて旋法的なメロディが朗々と歌われる、いずれも中国民謡風の親しみ易い歌曲。
