The soundtrack to this Eddie Murphy vehicle introduces some of the hottest new hip-hoppers of the summer of 1996 (Foxy Brown, Trigger Tha Gambler), while reintroducing some of Def Jam's best rappers from both coasts (LL Cool J, Warren G). The heart of this diverse soundtrack is in the tracks that feature R&B vocals over a hip-hop track, sometimes with a guest rapper. Slick Rick shows up on Montell Jordan's "I Like," and Naughty By Nature is featured on Monica's "Ain't Nobody." There are also posse cuts with old-school, pass-the-mic rhyming: Trigger performs with his brother Smoothe Da Hustler on "My Crew Can't Go For That," while Def Squad's "Breaker 1, Breaker 2" features frontmen Redman, Keith Murray and Erick Sermon. Love songs by the likes of Az Yet and LL Cool J add a smooth side to THE NUTTY PROFESSOR.
