1980年ロンドン生まれのアンナ・クラインは、2015年にグラミー賞の現代クラシック作曲家賞にノミネートしたアコースティックおよびエレクトロ・アコースティック音楽の作曲家。世界中の最先端の振付家、ビジュアル・アーティスト、映画製作者、ミュージシャンとのコラボレーションを行い、2010年～2015年まではリッカルド・ムーティの下でシカゴ交響楽団のコンポーザー・イン・レジデンスを務め、その後も、ボルティモア交響楽団、イル・ド・フランス国立管弦楽団、バークリー交響楽団の作曲家を歴任。2020年からはスコットランド室内管弦楽団のアソシエイト・コンポーザーに就任しています。

アンナ・クラインの「神話集(Mythologies)」は、2005年～2015年にわたって書かれ、BBCラジオ3で放送されてきたバービカン・ホールとロイヤル・アルバート・ホールでのライヴ録音。マリン・オールソップ、サカリ・オラモ、アンドルー・リットン、アンドレ・デ・リッダーといった4人の名指揮者がそれぞれBBC交響楽団を振っており、歴史的なスタイルから新しい音楽への変容、エレクトロ・アコースティック音楽のバックグラウンドと詩、ビジュアルアート、ビデオグラフィーなど様々なマルチメディアとのコラボレーションで培ってきたアンナ・クラインの豊かな魅力が凝縮された作品です。

CD盤(AV2434)は2020年10月にワールド・リリースされ、グラモフォン「エディターズ・チョイス」、プレスト・クラシカル「エディターズ・チョイス」などに選定。ニューヨーク・ミュージック・デイリーでは「2020年の6つのベスト・クラシカル・アルバムの1つ」に選ばれるなど大成功を収め、豪華2枚組LPセットの発売が実現しました。180g重量盤アナログ・レコードによる高品質サウンドで、アンナ・クラインのカラフルな音のパレットと特殊効果を再現します。

Composer Anna Clyne has gained considerable popularity both in her native Britain and in the U.S., where she was composer-in-residence with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Her large, motoric scores owe something to John Adams, but the vivid colors in her works do much to tell the story and owe something to her background in electro-acoustic music, although all the music here is for traditional instruments. The pieces here cover a ten-year period; the oldest, rewind, is from 2005 and may require some explanation for younger listeners who have never seen a VCR: it evokes the feeling of a videotape being rewound, with hiccups and stops and starts along the way. One of the attractive features of Clynes music is that it may take up lighter or more serious themes and may use a variety of tonal procedures without losing its essential brightness. Consider The Seamstress (2014), for violin and orchestra (featuring contemporary music specialist Jennifer Koh on violin), which features elements of both folk fiddling and 12-tone organization. The performances here are all by the BBC Symphony Orchestra under various conductors, including Sakari Oramo, and were recorded under different producers and engineers, yet here, too, Clynes personality remains consistent. Expect to be hearing a lot more of this composer on concert programs in the future, and get in on the ground floor now.
