象徴主義的音楽としてのドビュッシー《前奏曲集》と、占星術を念頭に12星座を音楽化したクラムの《マクロコスモス》第1巻をカップリングし、「音の中の魔法」をテーマに、聴き手を不思議な音世界へと誘う1枚。ドビュッシーは、テキストの選択や歌劇《ペレアスとメリザンド》からもわかるように、自分自身を象徴主義に精通していると考えていました。彼の2巻の前奏曲集では、主題や詩的な説明はタイトルとしてではなく、各曲の最後に暗示的に括弧で表示されています。アメリカの作曲家ジョージ・クラムの《マクロコスモス》は、19世紀にシューマンが書いたような、種々の性格的小品を集めたもので、こちらも各曲はみな暗示的な意味を持っています。例えば第5曲「The Phantom Gondolier」は、占星術においてちょうどさそり座の期間が始まる10月24日が誕生日であるクラム自身の見事な自画像となっています。演奏はクラシックのみならず、ジャズやタンゴでも洗練された演奏を聞かせる気鋭のピアニスト、マーティン・クレットです。
