After scoring a big success among lounge music fans with their influential In Flight Entertainment, the Karminsky Experience returned the following year with a second volume. This sequel manages to avoid the sophomore slump that often plagues these kinds of follow-up compilations by widening both the number of styles and the different countries represented. Like its predecessor, this disc includes plenty of soul and jazz-influenced numbers, but Further In Flight Entertainment takes the concept further by tackling new elements: Big Jim Sullivan's sitar-heavy instrumental version of "Sunshine Superman" reflects the period when Indian music had a strong influence on mid-'60s pop and lounge sounds, while Don Sebesky's "Soul Lady" adds a futuristic edge to its lounge style by adding wild Moog synthesizer solos into its pop-soul mix. Further In Flight Entertainment also widens the mostly European focus of the previous volume by going further around the globe for arresting tracks: Japan's J-Girls apply smoothly delivered Japanese lyrics to a slick, organ-heavy slice of pop-soul called "Yellow World," and India's Usha Uthup & Chorus create a one-of-a-kind fusion of Latin pop and Indian sounds with "One Two Cha Cha Cha" by adding sitar breaks into its horn-heavy mambo rhythms. Despite all these differences from the preceding volume, Further In Flight Entertainment retains the dance music emphasis and careful programming that made In Flight Entertainment such a delight. As a result, Further In Flight Entertainment can be recommended to lounge fans and novices alike because it presents an ideal mix of adventurous musicianship and catchy tunes wrapped up in one deliciously kitschy package. ~ Donald A.
