Recurring Horrors is A Colourful Storms second collection of archival material recorded by Christoph de Babalon around the same time period as his 1997 masterpiece If Youre Into It, Im Out of It. While some of these tracks sound like sketches (Delinquent Dreams abruptly cuts off at two minutes and the barren Frost is about the same length), overall the material is just a fiery as anything else he was producing at the time. Tracks like Combine have thick, heavy breakbeats and overdriven bass with distinctly rough production values akin to a low-budget slasher film. Recurring Horrors pushes the beats into hyperdrive and surrounds them with a swirl of antagonistic voices. The easy highlight is No Mans Land, a hallucinatory ten-minute doom ride that sounds a bit like Nasty Habits Shadow Boxing pushed to the edge (though this was actually recorded two years before the techstep classic was released in 1996). ~ Paul Simpson
