伝説の1988年『鬱』ツアーの名作ライヴ作品『Delicate Sound Of Thunder』(邦題:光～PERFECT LIVE!)がリミックス、リマスター、レストア(修復)、リエディテッド(再編集)され、現在考えうる最高のクォリティで新たに生まれ変わり、2CD、Blu-ray、DVD、3LP及び、デラックス・ボックス(ボーナス・トラック入り2CD+Blu-ray+DVD 4枚組)の5つのフォーマットでリリースされる。新生ピンク・フロイドが1987年発表した通算16作目のアルバム『鬱/A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF REASON』(マルチ・プラチナを獲得)発売直後の1987年9月よりスタートした10年振りのワールド・ツアーは、日本を含む全世界を巡演。1989年7月までおよそ2年をかけ、合計198公演、425万人を動員。"光と音の大スペクタクル・ショー"と呼ばれ、大成功を収めた伝説のツアーだった。このツアーより、ファースト・レグ最終公演となった1988年8月19日～23日、ニューヨーク州ロングアイランド ナッソー・コロシアム公演を収録し、当時ピンク・フロイド初のフル・ライヴ盤として大々的に発表された。その当時は1988年11月に2CD、2カセット、2LP、VHS、レーザーディスクで発売されたものの、その後はDVD、Blu-rayといった新規のフォーマットで発売されることがなく、長年にわたって再発を切望されていたもの。1988年の日本公演を体験した方々にとってはあの感動が甦る待望の作品となる。

ピンク・フロイド第二の全盛期を捉えた『Delicate Sound Of Thunder』のニュー・ヴァージョンは、2019年12月に発売されたBOXセット『The Later Years』にも含まれていたライヴ・アルバムとコンサートを完全収録した映像(オリジナルの35mmフィルムを修復・再編集し、5.1サラウンド・サウンドで音質を向上させたもの)を、新たなパッケージ、ブックレットとともに新装リリースするもの。全フォーマットに24ページのフォト・ブックレットが、4枚組ボックス・セットには40ページのフォト・ブックレット、ツアー・ポスター、ポストカードが封入される。(1/2)

『光～PERFECT LIVE!』ニュー・ヴァージョンは、長年眠っていた100個以上ものフィルム缶に収められていたオリジナル35mmネガ・フィルムから、丹念な修復を経て4Kに変換。修復とアップグレードを施された映像はオーブリー・パウエル(ヒプノシス)のクリエイティヴ・ディレクションのもと、ベニー・トリケットが全面的に再編集した。サウンドも同様に、ピンク・フロイドのエンジニアを長年務めるアンディ・ジャクソンがピンク・フロイドのデヴィッド・ギルモアとともに、アシスタントにデイモン・イディンスを迎え、オリジナルのマルチトラック・テープより全面的なリミックスを施した。

セットリストは当時の新曲とピンク・フロイドの名曲が絶妙なバランスで織り交ざっており、『狂気』収録曲(「タイム」、「走り回って」、「虚空のスキャット」、「アス・アンド・ゼム」)、『炎～あなたがここにいてほしい』のアンセミックなタイトル曲、『ザ・ウォール』からは「コンフォタブリー・ナム」と、カタルシスを感じさせる「ラン・ライク・ヘル」が収録されている。2CDヴァージョンはパワフルな「幻の翼」、リリカルな「現実との差異」他、『鬱』の全収録曲がフィーチャーされている。(2/2)

In the late '80s, fans were thirsting for a live spectacle from Pink Floyd, where they could hear the old tunes and see all the old stunts. That's what they got on the 1987/1988 Pink Floyd world tour, which is documented on the double-disc set Delicate Sound of Thunder. David Gilmour's reunited Floyd (minus Roger Waters) was intent on re-creating the sound and feel of classic Floyd, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that the oldies feel like the classic records, only with Gilmour taking each vocal.
