ウィーン・フィル・サマーナイト・コンサート2020

今年のテーマは「愛」!しかもヨナス・カウフマンがゲストに登場!

毎年ウィーンの聴衆を熱狂させる記念碑的コンサートのライヴ。ニューイヤー・コンサートと並ぶウィーン・フィルの名物行事で、2004年の開催以来、初夏のウィーンの風物詩として定着している「ウィーン・フィル・サマー・ナイト・コンサート」。ユネスコの世界遺産にも指定されているシェーンブルン宮殿を舞台に行われるオープンエアの演奏会の模様は世界の60カ国以上に生中継(もしくは録画放送)されています。

このコンサートはこれまで、ゲルギエフ、バレンボイム、ヴェルザー=メスト、マゼール、エッシェンバッハ、メータ、ドゥダメル等が登場など、錚々たる指揮者陣の起用というだけでなく、ピアニストのラン・ランやソプラノのネトレプコらも登場していることからも、ウィーン・フィルにとって最も重要なコンサートという位置付けがなされていることがわかります。

ソニー・クラシカルは2013年からこの「サマー・ナイト・コンサート」をCDと映像ソフトで発売していますが、その第8回目となる今年2020年は、巨匠ワレリー・ゲルギエフが、2011年、2018年に続き3度目の登壇となります(通算では4回目)。

今年は、新型コロナウイルス、Covid-19パンデミックの封じ込めに関する現在の状況と政府の規制により、毎年6月に行われているこのコンサートは2020年9月18日に変更し、無観客で開催されることとなりました。今年のテーマは「愛」で、R.シュトラウスの「ばらの騎士」、ワーグナーの「トリスタンとイゾルデ」、メンデルスゾーンの「真夏の夜の夢」、そしてモーリス・ジャールによる映画「ドクトル・ジバゴ」からの組曲などがプログラミングされていて、期待度が膨らみます。またどの曲も華麗なウィーンの響きと個性とゲルギエフの解釈が相互に作用した濃厚な抒情のコントラストで、聴きごたえ十分な音楽となること間違いなしです。

そして今回テノールのスター、ヨナス・カウフマンが初登場し、お得意のウェルテルとカラフのアリア、そしてオペレッタのアリア1曲を披露!ウィンナ・リートとオペレッタのアリアを歌いあげたアルバム『ウィーン』でもウィーン・フィルと共演して息の合ったところを見せたばかりのカウフマンですが、持ち味であるドラマティックな表現力に魅了されること間違いなし。

The Sommernachtskonzert or Summer Night Concert at Schonbrunn Castle in Vienna is a slightly less vernacular-oriented cousin to the citys grand New Years Eve festivity, with fewer waltzes and operetta excerpts. It is just as popular, however, drawing crowds of 100,000, and it is equally oriented toward familiar material, traditionally concluding with Johann Strauss IIs Wiener Blut Waltz, Op. 354. For the 2020 concert, squeezed in between two waves of the coronavirus in Austria, Valery Gergiev returned for his fourth evening as conductor. Given his track record as a specialist in weighty operas and Russian symphonies, one might well wonder whether the more popular entries on the program here would really be in his wheelhouse, but there are reasons Gergiev is one of the most popular conductors of the day, and they are on full display here. He is compelling not only in the Love Music from Wagners Tristan und Isolde but in the Barcarolle from Offenbachs Les contes dHoffmann, which has a delightfully buoyant quality. Gergiev is an able accompanist to Jonas Kaufmann, in fine voice, in the two operetta numbers by Kalman and Sieczynski, and two operatic selections. He even stays out of the way of Maurice Jarres great tunes in the Doctor Zhivago Suite. With Deutsche Grammophons fine live sound, this is the next best thing to being in Vienna, coronavirus or not.
