アレクサンドル・タローのピアノ伴奏で、ソプラノのサビーヌ・ドゥヴィエルがニュアンスに富んだ声で歌う、19世紀後半から20世紀半ばに書かれたフランスの歌曲集。アナログLP盤を限定発売!

ドゥヴィエルとタローは、フォーレ、プーランク、ラヴェル、ドビュッシーと、この時代を代表する作曲家の歌曲の中から「愛」「戦い」「死」にまつわる曲を選び、周到にプログラムを創り上げています。アルバムタイトルにもなったフォーレの「シャンソン・ダムール=愛の歌」やプーランクの「愛の小径」などの良く耳にする愛らしい歌をはじめ、ラヴェルの「5つのギリシャ民謡」、ドビュッシーの「忘れられた小唄」などの連作歌曲といった、今回2人がどうしても採り上げたかったという曲集など、多彩な作品が並ぶこの1枚には、ドゥヴィエルとタローの"今こそ表現したい思い"が詰まっており、聴き手は聴いているだけで様々な体験をすることができるでしょう。ドゥヴィエルの柔らかくニュアンスに富んだ声は、フランス歌曲の持つ繊細な雰囲気を余すことなく表現するだけではなく、ここにタローのピアノがぴったりと寄り添い、ときには優しく、時には自由に旋律を歌い上げます。

Soprano Sabine Devieilhe has a silvery voice that blooms unexpectedly into a rich vibrato at phrase ends. One might object to that in a program of French songs like this one, it doesnt vary much in texts that run from the purely Romantic to proto-surrealist takes on the given theme of love. Nevertheless, the voice is distinctive enough that many pieces will linger in the listeners thoughts, and the Siemens-Villa studio sound from Eratos engineers brightens her to brilliance. Best of all is the group of six Ariettes oubliees of Debussy in the second half of the program. These are early Debussy songs, but their oblique restraint and their state-of-the-art texts by Paul Verlaine mark them unmistakably as products of the mature composer. Here Devieilhe has room to relax her voice and wrap it around lines that seem never to go quite where one thinks they will. She, likewise, does well with the Cinq melodies populaires grecques of Ravel, entering into the songs simplicity. Elsewhere are other songs by Ravel, Debussy, Faure, and Poulenc, all of them about love in one way or another (as long as one is willing to admit love of Paris into this category). Essentially, with a recording like this, listener reactions will depend on their feelings about Devieilhes voice: so listen to the likes of Ravels Trois beaux oiseaux de paradis, from the Trois chansons, M. 69, and see if these beautiful birds of paradise make a connection.
