Watching Kiss My Blood reminds you that Iggy Pop is one of rock's all-time great visual performers. Like a man getting a high-voltage charge shot up his spinal cord, he's all spastic moves and manic contortions. In fact, his performance style is arguably as seductive as that of Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, James Brown, and even Elvis himself. That in itself makes this DVD a rock & roll treasure. But there's plenty more on offer. Recorded at the Olympia in Paris in 1991, Iggy is in top form with a backing band that gives a decidedly metal edge to a stunning song list of the street-walkin' cheetah's standards. The set -- 22 numbers in all -- includes songs from Pop's days with punk progenitors the Stooges through to the album he was promoting at the time, the quite outstanding Brick by Brick (five songs from that disc make it into the set). The crowd is totally into it and Iggy is totally into them, working them like the old punk pro he is. This is one of those rare concert films that really captures the energy and atmosphere of the event. As for the title, just use your imagination. After all, this is an Iggy Pop show we're talking about. ~ Adrian Zupp
