Originally released as part of the comprehensive Dont Tell a Soul box set Dead Mans Pop, The Complete Inconcerated: Live contains the entirety of the Replacements June 2, 1989 show at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, a concert that that was originally excerpted for the highly sought-after 1989 promo EP Inconcerated Live. This set, too, is a limited edition, released only as a triple LP as part of Record Store Day 2020, since its digital incarnation is preserved as part of Dead Mans Pop. However the UW show is heard, its proof positive that the band could sometimes act like crowd-pleasing professionals on-stage. They lean heavily on both Dont Tell a Soul and Pleased to Meet Me, hauling out a few key cuts from Tim and Let It Be, plus their version of Cruella de Ville, which they originally cut for the Hal Willner Disney tribute Stay Awake. Maybe its not the untrammeled train wreck of Mats lore, but thats why Complete Inconcerated is a satisfying at-home listen: for once, the Replacements delivered exactly what they were supposed to when they were supposed to. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
