The Loft continue to show why they're perhaps Creation's best band. With excellent songs like "Your Door Shines Like Gold," they are the kind of ambitious pop band (with that Creation-fresh sound) that should be more common. Peter Astor may be a budding star, with a smooth voice and a knack for a snappy tune, and it all recalls the freshness felt when first encountering Orange Juice or It's Immaterial or the very early Smiths ("Hand in Glove" era) for the first time. In essence, there are crisp, jangly guitars that still feel like they are full of vim and vigor instead of some pillow-talk play, and a burbling rhythm section with the same sort of minor crackle.
