Five months following the release of their second full-length, 2019s Young Enough, 90s alt-rock descendants Charly Bliss returned with the companion EP Supermoon, also on Barsuk. It features completed songs from the albums recording sessions that, for thematic or narrative reasons more so than quality control, didnt make it onto the long-player. That there werent quality issues becomes apparent right from Supermoons impeccable opener, Feed, a sugary grunge-pop tune with a blend of fuzz and shimmery jangle, churning drum fills, and a memorable chorus consisting of the anthem I would feed the whole world if I could. It would be the best song on many a like-minded album, but on this abbreviated set its challenged by the love-struck Heaven, a pulsing, distortion-filled power ballad with sky-high vocal harmonies and a 6/8 time signature. Released as a single in 2018, it has vocalist Eva Hendricks envisioning a fem-friendly life of domestic tranquility with Im gonna buy a house and fill it with daughters and daughters and daughters and daughters…. The remaining three tracks arent exactly filler, either, making Supermoon a minor release not to be missed by fans of the band. ~ Marcy Donelson
