1960年代より実験音楽畑を歩んできたイギリス出身の作曲家スケンプトンの作品集。バッハにインスパイアされ、コンテンポラリー・スタイルで書かれた《24のプレリュードとフーガ》を中心に、さまざまな趣きを持つ小品集が並び、聴き手の耳をひと時も離すことがありません。仄暗く内省的でありながら、ジャズのテイストも感じられる「3つのノクターン」、瞑想的な「リフレクションズ」、また「映像」には、ドビュッシーの同名作と同じく、イギリス北部のタインサイドの民謡「キール・ロウ」のメロディが取り入れられるなど、創意工夫が凝らされています。ウィリアム・ハワードは40か国以上で演奏を行い高く評価されているピアニスト。室内楽も得意で数多いアルバムをリリースしている実力派です。
