Late-1960s occult band Coven achieved notoriety with their catchily titled debut album, emerging as they did around the time of the Sharon Tate murders. Interestingly, their fan base apparently included Charles Manson himself, as well as the renowned occultist Anton La Vey. Though the attendant negative publicity around an album that included a full-blown satanic ritual (as well as the cheekily titled "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge") was to herald a swift change in musical direction, WITCHCRAFT DESTROYS remains a fascinating oddity, an early precursor to a swarm of like-minded, similarly hell-bound early-21st century outfits.
