Cheap Trick: Robin Zander (vocals); Rick Nielsen (guitar); Tom Petersson (bass); Bun E. Carlos (drums).
Engineers: Cheap Trick, Jack Douglas, Tomoo Suzuki.
Recorded live in Budokan, Japan in 1978 and 1979.
All songs written by members of Cheap Trick except "California Man" (Roy Wood) and "Speak Now Or Forever Hold Your Peace" (Terry Reid).
Since AT BUDOKAN was only a single album, and the band recorded a few nights worth of concerts during their inaugural 1978 visit to Japan, there was an abundance of leftover tracks. In 1993 Epic finally compiled and issued the missing songs as BUDOKAN II. But the fact that these tracks sat on a shelf for nearly 15 years doesn't mean that they are second-rate outtakes, many of the cuts are just as strong as the material that resided on the original AT BUDOKAN.
Like it's predecessor, BUDOKAN II is totally filler-free, nothing but the finest is included--"Elo Kiddies," "Speak Now," "Downed," "Oh Caroline" and "Auf Wiedersehen" truly belonged on the first BUDOKAN. Such lesser known tracks as "High Roller," "Southern Girls," "Stiff Competition," "How Are You" and "Can't Hold On" all shine in a live setting as well. This is an excellent reminder of why Cheap Trick were one of rock's great success stories. Most of BUDOKAN II was merged with AT BUDOKAN for 1998's 2-CD set CHEAP TRICK AT BUDOKAN: THE COMPLETE CONCERT.
