Personnel: Gene Krupa (drums). Recording information: 04/1938-??/1949. This collector's LP gathers together a variety of studio recordings by several editions of the Gene Krupa Orchestra. The eight selections from 1938-41 (which include "Prelude to a Stomp," "Foo for Two," "Tiger Rag" and a number called "Manhattan Transfer") have all since been reissued on CD by the European Classics label so the two selections from 1946 (which feature trumpeter Red Rodney, altoist Charlie Kennedy and the tenor of Charlie Ventura) and the six tunes from 1949 (when trumpeter Roy Eldridge was back with the band) are of the greatest interest. ~ Scott Yanow
