Though released in 2005, HOW STRANGE, INNOCENCE was actually recorded before Explosions in the Sky's 2001 debut, THOSE WHO TELL THE TRUTH SHALL DIE, THOSE WHO TELL THE TRUTH SHALL LIVE FOREVER. Consequently, HOW STRANGE bears some of the hallmarks of a band finding its footing--the compositions are not quite as complex and refined as they would become on later releases. Still this snapshot of early EITS is full of the thoughtful, layered, instrumental post-rock that has won the band a devoted following over time, and the group's trademark melodicism and sonic scope is already well in place here.

日本での人気も高く、フジロックをはじめ数度の来日公演も好評なUSインストゥルメンタル・ポストロック・バンドの2000年デビュー作。美しく抒情的なギターのアルペジオと弦楽をおもわせるフィードバックノイズが折り重なり、やがて衝動を叩きつけるカタルシスの渦へと飲み込まれていく様は、代表格のSigur RosやMOGWAIとはまた違った爽快感がある。
