2019年はBlue Note設立80周年。そんな記念すべき年にスタートした新アナログ・シリーズ、180g重量盤LP Tone Poets シリーズ。
本シリーズは現社長ドン・ウォズがインディ会社Music Mattersから並外れたオーディオファイルでの再発を称賛したことに基づきスタート。The Tone Poetと知られるJoe Harley(AKA The Tone Poet)がこのBlue Noteファミリーのレーベルからのこの特別なシリーズの再発のキュレーターを務める。ジャケット・グラフィックから印刷の品質まで、考えられるあらゆる方法で本シリーズは正しい方向性をもったリリースとなるよう Kevin Greyの優れたヴァイナル・マスタリングからRecord Technology Inc.の180gオーディオ・ファイル・プレスまで細部への注意が払われている。オーディオ・ファンにはこれ以上のこれらのLPの優れたヴァージョンを見つけることはできないはず。第3弾リリースはチック・コリアやマイルス・デイヴィスとのコラボでも知られるテナーサックス奏者、ジョー・ヘンダーソンの1985年作品。1985年11月14-16日にNYヴィレッジ・ヴァンガードで行われたオールスター・トリオのライヴ録音。ジョー・ヘンダーソンのブルーノート第2期を代表する名盤。

In a set that begs comparison to Sonny Rollins's famous Village Vanguard recordings of 1957, tenor-master Joe Henderson performed with a similar pianoless trio, using bassist Ron Carter and drummer Al Foster. On the second of two LPs, Henderson explores lesser-known songs by Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver and Charles Mingus, a Charlie Parker blues ("Cheryl") and two of his own originals. Alfred Lion, founder of Blue Note, stated at the time that he believed the first volume of this series was one of the best ever made for Blue Note. The second volume is at the same explorative and exciting level. Joe Henderson fans are advised to pick up both sets, which have since been reissued on CD. ~ Scott Yanow
