繊細な天才青年がLAに渡ってUSのメインストリームな面々と相まみえてきたことで、随分と逞しくなってきたと思える新作。今回はコラボの妙といえる組み合わせがいくつもあって、まずはトラップ界の雄たるメトロ・ブーミン。二人の持ち味が溶け合ったトラックにトラヴィス・スコットやモーゼズ・サムニーがフィーチャーされていて、この邂逅は新鮮だ。そしてラテン・シーンの新鋭として脚光を浴びているロザリア。意外な組み合わせだけど、見事にJBの世界観にハメている。あとはアウトキャストのアンドレ3000。陰鬱なピアノ・ループに乗せる彼の流麗なライミングは一聴の価値あり。そしてゲストなしの後半は表現力をまた豊かにした彼の歌声が存分に楽しめる。本作でズルリと剥けた感じ。

豪華すぎるコラボが目を惹くが、息を飲むほど美しいピアノのアルペジオが曲を先導する① 昇華する美しさを凝縮した④ エクスペリメンタルとポップの共存に成功した⑪などのゲストなしの楽曲からは、SSWとしてのジェイムス・ブレイクを堪能できる。また今作は従来のメランコリーな雰囲気とは異なり、幾分外交的になった印象。ゆえに過去作との対比が面白く、同時に次回作への期待に胸踊らずにいられない。
