Recorded between 1967 and 1974. Ultimate Collection contains four compact discs comprising 53 tracks. While a this is a fine overview of Ike & Tina Turner, it doesn't live up it to its boastful title; it's missing too many essentials, including "Fool in Love," "It's Gonna Work Out Fine," "Shake a Tailfeather," and "Somebody Needs You." The selections include five live tracks, early R&B favorites like "I Idolize You," "Ooh Poo Pah Doo," and "I Can't Believe What You Say," as well as with a slew of remakes from the Beatles to Little Eva. They perform three Curtis Mayfield songs, including live versions of "You Must Believe in Me" and "Keep on Pushing"; the other Mayfield track, a studio take of "Fool for You," accurately characterizes Tina's stormy, abusive relationship with Ike. ~ Andrew Hamilton
