ヨ・ラ・テンゴが描く幽遠な夏のサウンド・トラックにして、ファンクやフリー・ジャズなどを咀嚼したゼロ年代のバンドの意匠が詰まった03年作品。
アルバムの世界観へと一気にリスナーを引き込むオープナー「Beach Party Tonight」、代表曲「Today Is The Day」、シャッグスをアーサー・ラッセルがリエディットしたかのような大曲「Let's Be Still」を収録。

30年以上に渡りUSインディーシーンの第一線で活躍する米ニュージャージー州ホーボーケン出身のカリスマバンド、ヨ・ラ・テンゴ。日本でも長年に渡り熱狂的なファンに支持されている彼等の、フリー・ジャズの要素を感じさせるクワイエットな作風でシーンに多大なる影響を与えた、2003年リリースの通算10枚目のアルバムにして名盤『Summer Sun』のヴァイナルがリプレス決定!

この前風呂に入りながらヨ・ラ・テンゴの温度はどれくらいだろうと考えた。新作のタイトルは〈夏の太陽〉、でもジャケに写るメンバーは寒そうで“Winter A Go-Go”なんて曲も収録。で気付くのは、あのフィードバック・ノイズが闇に溶けて消えてしまったことだ。濃密な気配を滲ませたメロディーと歌声がゆらゆらと揺れている。その歌に温度計をあててみれば、果たして彼らは〈ホット〉なのか〈クール〉なのか。長年のプロデューサー、ロジャー・モウテノットとのコラボレーションでさらに拡がった新しい風景。ジャズのセッションのように流動的で、ロックンロールの甘酸っぱさも忘れちゃいない。それに“Let's Be Still”で聴かせるヘヴンリーなアンビエント感といったら!　余計なことを言い過ぎた。いまヨ・ラは最高の湯加減だ。ビッグ・スターからサン・ラーまで、みんないっしょに首まで浸かって楽しんでる。もちろん僕も、そしてキミも!
