This Swiss-based metal band brings a folk-influenced slant to the genre with an approach that throws hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, whistles, and violins into the musical meat-grinder. It's a surprisingly palatable brew, with the ear-lacerating effects of Chrigel Glanzmann's guttural vocals sweetened considerably by the eerie skirling of pipes and the medieval-sounding melodies of the other traditional instruments on such tracks as "Iris Mona," which conjures Grendel and Gollum in an unholy folk alliance, and the RIVERDANCE-gone-metal thrash of "Gray Sublime Archon."
