When Alvin Curran recorded Songs and Views of the Magnetic Garden, it was a fairly radical album. At the same time, it harked back to a simpler time in e-music, when loops, echo, and feedback were the primary recording tools. While this is a unique and original recording, it has definite echoes of the mid-'60s work of Terry Riley, Pauline Oliveros, and Steve Reich. Curran uses the available technology to manipulate his music and sounds. The chants have overtone and harmonic singing qualities. This is a good disc and a fun disc. It will appeal to fans of the aforementioned artists. ~ Jim Brenholts
