Ten Years After: Alvin Lee (guitar, vocals); Chick Churchill (keyboards); Leo Lyons (bass); Ric Lee (drums). "Sweet Little Sixteen" was recorded live at The Isle Of Wight festival (1970). Personnel: Alvin Lee (vocals, guitar); Chick Churchill (keyboards); Ric Lee (drums). Recording information: Olympic Studios (1970); The Isle of Wight Festival (1970). Photographer: John Fowlie. British blues-rockers Ten Years After are best known for two things - their Woodstock performance of "I'm Going Home," and their classic-rock radio staple "I'd Like to Change the World." Their 1970 release WATT came right in between those two milestones, and perhaps as a result, has been largely overlooked. Nevertheless, it's full of the kind of hard-driving, blues-based workouts that are the band's trademark, with plenty of six-string flash from frontman Alvin Lee. And while there's plenty of bluesy boogie of the band's own invention here, one of the most exciting moments on WATT is undeniably a live version of the Chuck Berry classic "Sweet Little Sixteen," as Ten Years After invests the iconic tune with every last drop of energy they possess.

商品の紹介

Watt had many of the same ingredients as its predecessor, Cricklewood Green, but wasn't nearly as well thought out. The band had obviously spent much time on the road, leaving little time for developing new material. Consequently, a cover of Chuck Berry's "Sweet Little Sixteen," recorded live at the Isle of Wight Festival, is included here, as is a short instrumental with the uninspired title "The Band with No Name." Other song titles like "I Say Yeah" and "My Baby Left Me" betray the lack of spark in Alvin Lee's songwriting. Nonetheless, his guitar work is fast and clean (though the licks are beginning to sound repetitive from album to album), and the band continues to cook in the manner exemplified best on Cricklewood Green. ~ Jim Newsom|
