米コロラド出身の女性シンガーソング・ライター、ローラ・ヴェイアーズが10作目となる新作『ザ・ルックアウト』をリリース!これまでに9枚のスタジオ・アルバムを発表し、16年にはシンガー・ソングライターのニーコ・ケースとk.d.ラングとコラボレーションしたユニット、case/lang/veirsとしてアルバムを発表し、約20年にわたり活発に楽曲制作をしている。今回新たに発表された新作『ザ・ルックアウト』は、R.E.Mやスプーンなど数々の大物を手掛け、グラミー賞にノミネートされたこともあるタッカー・マルティーヌがプロデュースを担当。さらにゲスト・ヴォーカルとして、スフィアン・スティーヴンスやジム・ジェームスが参加している。既に公開されている新曲「Everybody Needs You」には、米SSWのカール・ブラウが演奏に参加している。
本作は"大切なものの儚さ"について書かれたコンセプト・アルバムであり、感情がかき乱されている時に心を落ち着かせてくれるサウンドトラックだ。優しいヴォーカルとアコースティック・ギターを中心としたフォーク・ポップ・ソングが全12曲収録されている。
