Great news is The Documentary 2 sounds effortless and winds up awesome because of it, with singles like "100" featuring Drake and "Summertime" with its Mike WiLL Made It beat both coming off as cool-headed classics. Dre and Ice Cube show up for the key cut "Don't Trip," while appearances from Ab-Soul, Future, and DeJ Loaf prove the Game is up on current events. Somewhere in between are appearances from Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, and Q-Tip, all assisting the MC on this worthy and downright exciting sequel. ~ David Jeffries

コンプトンの若大将による3年ぶりの新作は、なんと『The Documentary 2.5』との連作で登場(日本盤は両作をセットにした2枚組)。タイトルに引用された『The Documentary』とは、今年でリリース10周年を迎える彼自身のデビュー作の名。また、今年はケンドリック・ラマーやドクター・ドレーら同郷のMCがすでに特大盤を発表済みという流れもあり……ということで、迸る自信と努力が滲み出る仕上がりに。先述したケンドリックやドレーのほか、カニエ・ウェストやドレイクら豪華ゲスト陣の顔ぶれはトラックリストで確認していただくとして、何より痺れるのは90年代マナー、そして、ウェストコーストの正統派マナーに則った秀逸なトラック群。もちろん十八番でもあるネーム・ドロップも勢い衰えず。
